Wow, time does fly! Summer vacation has come and gone and the daily grind is in full swing as the kids headed back to school this week. It’s been a big adjustment with Chase & Ladybug suddenly becoming “BIG” kids starting kindergarten, Tech off to middle school and Shyne starting her online based program.
After spending the entire summer in Toronto, I had just a few days to get everything and everyone ready for school. When it comes to getting things knocked off your checklist MinuteClinic has all the services you need, from vaccinations and immunizations to sports physicals.
Back to School Ready with MinuteClinic
MinuteClinic offers expert advice and a variety of back-to-school vaccinations required by schools like meningitis and pertussis (whopping cough). Find out the requirements for meningitis and pertussis shots in your state by clicking here.
Children and young adults are among the highest at risk for meningitis. MinuteClinic can administer meningitis vaccines to anyone over 18 months in most states. In Georgia, children entering 7th grade are now required to get a meningitis vaccine…that means 1 more year for Tech, but at least I know MinuteClinic will have him covered.
Start back-to-school sport activities slowly…
After a very active summer, we’ll be easing the kids back into their fall sport routines to gradually build strength and endurance. Experts recommend increasing intensity, distance or duration of play by about 10% a week to the body to rest, rebuild, recover and avoid injury. Help boost your little ones’ stamina with quinoa, kale, chia seed, peanut butter and pickle juice..yes you read that right! Pickle juice has magical powers.
Don’t pack everything in that backpack…
Backpacks are an essential staple for school, but picking the right one involves more than making a fashion statement and you shouldn’t try to carry everything in it. Tech is notorious for trying to stuff the world in his backpack. Did you know a backpack’s weight should not be more than 15% of your child’s body weight…even less for a young child. Pick a backpack with padded, wide straps and a padded back. Backpacks with tight thin straps can cause affect circulation and cause nerve damage! We’re taking heed to that warning.
Get on a healthy sleep schedule…
My biggest challenge by far is getting everyone including myself to sleep at a decent hour. I’m committed to to changing that this year. A good night’s sleep can make all the difference in student performance not to mention the happiness of an entire household during the school year.
