Zone Perfect Blog Forward Challenge 2014
So here we are AGAIN. Not just a little overweight…no HEAVY came back with vengeance! It’s not that I haven’t caught a glimpse of the changing image in the mirror. I’ve seen her. It’s not that I don’t hear my closet laughing loudly at me…it could give Jimmy Kimmel material to fill an entire show with my drama of trying to get dressed…at least my fabulous shoe collection still fits!
I’ve just refused to address the growing elephant that’s always in the room. After a free health scan at work last week, my wake-up alarm final rang loud enough for me to realize I can no longer ignore the obvious signs that I have to get control of my weight. I sat nervously as the nurse went over my results, inside I was telling myself I was going to pay now for indulging in too many desserts and those fries…Cholesterol great. Bad Cholesterol great. Blood Sugar great. Blood Pressure excellent. BMI…I held my breathe and tried my best not to hear the word her lips mouthed –> obese! Seriously? Why couldn’t it just say overweight. I could have dealt with that description, but obese…all I can think about when I hear that word is someone so big they can’t get out of bed. That’s so not me!
I absolutely HATE that word. And I had to let her know my disgust saying it was a conspiracy to keep people obsessed about their weight. Honestly, if I weighed the 135 pounds that unrealistic chart says I should weigh I’d look like a cancer patient fighting for my life. So that’s NOT my goal. On the other hand, I shouldn’t weigh more than I did when I carried full term twins 3 years ago…so something has to CHANGE! I’m aiming for a happy and healthy medium.
So the timing was perfect when Zone Perfect invited me to participate their Blog Forward 2014 Challenge. It’s asocial media campaign to help bloggers like me make to healthy lifestyle resolutions in 2014. With challenges throughout the year aimed to keep us motivated and committed for long-term success. I can’t help wondering…is the universe trying to tell me something? Maybe it’s just serendipity.
Since my birthday is in February part of my annual gift to myself is a delayed New Year’s resolutions list. It’s time to reflect on my accomplishments and challenges of the year passed and what goals and intentions I’m striving for in the year ahead.
Zone Perfect Blog Forward 2014 Challenge #1: Post a blog article detailing 3–5 New Year’s resolutions and include a letter to your future self that encourages you to stay on track or get back on track.
My New & Improved 2014 Wellness Resolutions…
1. MOVE IT GIRL! Make it a mission to get a minimum of 30 minutes of heart pumping cardio EVERY day! No excuses period.
2. DRINK UP! Drink at least 32 ounces of water everyday.
3. BE AS SWEET AS PIE, JUST DON’T EAT IT! At least no desserts more than once a week. Curb sweet tooth with Zone Perfect protein bars. With less energy spikes and crashes caused by excessive sugar, I’ll be naturally sweet.
4. PUT THE NIGHT OWL TO BED! Lights out at midnight NOT 3 a.m.
5. MAKE ME TIME! Make taking time for myself a priority. Take 10 minutes in the morning to quiet my mind and meditate and get the pedicure I always put off.
And now a letter to myself – six months from now
It warms my heart to see the reflection looking back at me. With purposeful action and determination you’re doing what you said you were going to do and so much more! I love the calm grace that’s become a part of your presence…if I knew 10 minutes of meditation and yoga in the morning had that kind of power I could have saved frazzled nerves and many gray hairs. No worries, I’m grateful for all the life changing lessons I’ve learned. 30 short minutes can shrink your waist and thighs! Thanks to Zone Perfect nutrition bars my my once raging sweet tooth is tamed and that once dangerous BMI has moved to a safer zone and we still have the sexy curves! It’s nice to rock the confidence to match the bomb outfit and now I can again. Every day is a challenge but I know you’ll keep doing what you need to do to stay fit even if you stumble along the way. There’s no going back to where we were…when you know better you do better, so I’m counting on you. You were right, TV is in our future again and I’m so excited for the adventure ahead.
