Do your New Year’s resolutions include taking care of yourself? If not they should, and CVS MinuteClinic can help.I can hardly believe we’re nearing the end of the year! Seriously the older I get the faster time seems to fly by – I HATE that! I also don’t like some of the subtle physical changes that go along with creeping past age 40. And much to my chagrin, that list is steadily growing. Like thinning eyelashes.
I’ve never been a heavy make-up wearing type but I love the finished look of my eyes with mascara – it’s a definite miracle worker for my otherwise small vanishing-lid eyes! Yet I’ve noticed recently my eyelashes are not as full as they once were, so even my trusty mascara can’t fix it. In the quest to achieve full luscious lashes many women turn to fake lashes…that’s totally not my thing.
As part of their New Year’s Wellness Campaign, MinuteClinic is offering Eyelash Lengthening Consultation. So if you’re like me and your lashes are thinning as you get older, MinuteClinic can help those 18 an older through an eyelash lengthening consultation. Your nurse practitioner will to through a list of qualifying questions and discuss your individual needs to find out if it’s right for you and prescribe LATISSE – an at-home treatment that can give you longer, fuller and thicker lashes.
How Does Lattise Work?
Latisse is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for treating hypotrichosis – inadequate or sparse eyelashes. Like the hair on your head, eyelashes sprout, grow for a while and eventually fall out. When used properly Latisse can help promote the growth of thicker, darker, and longer eyelashes. The bimatoprost ophthalmic solution (0.03%) is the active ingredient in Latisse, which helps lengthen what is known as the anagen or “growth” phase of the eyelash hair cycle, as well as increase the number actual lashes produced during the anagen phase. Simply put, Latisse both extends the growth phase and increases the number of hairs that sprout.
Latisse is applied for several months nightly to the upper eyelid using a disposable applicator. It takes about 3-4 weeks to begin to see initial results. Once your eyelashes have grown, you’ll need to continue applying Latisse each day for maintenance. The down side is, if you stop treating your eyes the effects wear off and your lashes will pretty much look the way they did before you started treatment. That means Latisse must be applied as prescribed on a continuing basis. Potential side effects include dry eyes, eye redness and eyelid skin darkening.
As I discovered during my consultation, Latisse isn’t cheap. Based on my prescription coverage it would cost $137/month for a 3ml 1 month supply and $200-$255 for a 5ml 70 day supply. My insurance doesn’t cover this cost so it would be a total out of pocket expense. For now, I’ll splurge on a high quality mascara.
Despite the price tag and required commitment, Latisse is a definite hit with consumers – more than 4 million bottles have been sold since the product came on the market in 2008.
In addition to Eyelash Lengthening Consultation services, MinuteClinic also offers comprehensive Weight Loss and Smoking Cessation programs, complete with personalized assessment, plan and ongoing coaching.
With MinuteClinic’s New Year’s Wellness Campaign you’ll confidently step into 2015 taking care of yourself!
